Nike Officially Launches the Pro Hijab

Without any optimal sportswear options for hijab-wearing athletes, most had to turn to DIY remedies — New Jersey champion fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad recalls sweat making hers heavy and stiff, not only making it hard to hear but to comfortably move. Finally, Nike is set to release its Pro Hijab to solve the issue once and for all.
Crafted from a single-layer of Nike Pro cool mesh, the breathable garment allows hijabi athletes to compete comfortably, without constricting their movement or overheating. Professionals including the United Arab Emirates’ weightlifter Amna Al Haddad and figure skater Zahra Lari, Dubai runner Manal Rostom and German boxer Zeina Nassar all evaluated the headwear at every stage of development to optimize that resulting product. Design elements like a mechanism for an adjustable fit were rejected during the vetting process for adding weight — the goal was to make the garment as unencumbered as possible. Instead, designers opted for elastic XS/S and M/L sizing to accommodate as many head shapes as possible.
Available December 1 in black and obsidian, the Pro Hijab can be purchased on Nike’s website and from Nike stores around the world. In other sports news, Aimé Leon Dore‘s Teddy Santis discusses his favorite basketball players with Franchise magazine.
